How it all started...
Jose was agnostic, but raised Catholic. I was Pentacostal and loved Jesus. He agreed I could raise our kids in church and telling them about Jesus. After we were married, Jose asked me how I knew it was Jesus. He told me if I was born in the Middle East, I would be Muslim. If I was born in Asia, I would be Buddhist. I was probably only a Christian because I was born in America. I was doing laundry, and didn't feel like arguing or having a philosophical conversation. I didn't know he was actually searching. I brushed him off and said, "I don't know, Jose, just pray about it". Unbenounced to me, he did just that. He went into our living room, got on his knees, and said, "God, I don't know who you are, but if you show me the truth, I'll follow you". The very next day, before we had coffee or anything, my friend was over, and we were gathered around our dining room table. We were chatting when Jose interrupted what I was saying and then just stopped midsentence and started staring off into our living room. I looked at my friend and said, "So, anyway...", finished what I was saying, and then noticed he was still just staring off. I thought he was having a seizure because he was frozen, staring in the same direction, and silent. I said, "Jose, are you okay? You look like you saw a ghost". He replied, "Not a ghost- silver coins. I saw silver coins falling out of the ceiling." I got excited and proclaimed, "We're gonna' be rich!" I texted my uncle, who is also a pastor, explained what happened, and asked him what silver coins meant. He said "redemption". Okay, redemption is a pretty word, and we hear it all the time in church, but what does that mean? He told me, "Jesus dying on the cross for your sins. He was traded in for thirty pieces of silver." That's all it took. From that point on, we both knew Jesus is Lord.
Expanding the vision...
By the grace of God, I just so happened to meet some girls who invited me to their church and Bible Study. I told them my husband was recently saved, and we were looking for a place to connect. Jose dove head first into the Word and dissected as much as he could with some of the men who attended the Bible study. Upon further investigation, they realized Christmas and Easter have Pagan roots connected to the winter and summer solstices with no direct ties to Scripture (except Jeremiah 10, where we're told not to adorn a tree and put it in our home). When he showed me this, I realized I had been lied to and wanted to know more. The more we studied, the more it seemed like the Old Testament was still so relevant. There were so many references to it in the New Testament. I also had always been afraid of the Scripture in Matthew 7 where they tell Jesus that they performed miracles in His name, cast out demons in His name, and he says, "Depart from me, I never knew you." How could I be assured of my salvation? And then one day, I read the full scripture and saw that Yeshua says, "Depart from me, I never knew you, you workers of lawlessness." At that moment, it clicked for me. I knew I needed to look deeper in this "law".
a greater connection
When looking into the law, or the Torah, one of the first things that stood out to us was the Holy Days. We noticed it said these are forever, throughout your generations. Jesus celebrated these days, and we're to be like Him. We wanted to celebrate, and as we did, the whole Bible seemed to come to life. Our relationship with Jesus grew deeper, and connections were being made.
I will be honest and tell you that it was intimidating and overwhelming at first. There weren't a lot of resources to show me how to do this. But I was reminded that "His yoke is easy, and His burden is light". This is not about legalism. We are saved by the blood of Jesus shed on the cross. This is about learning and growing deeper.
Our desire at MoedimME is to be that resource we needed. We not only want to see others serving God according to how He wants to be served, but also see them enjoy it, grow, and encourage you to let you know that you can do this. These days are fun. Your generations will have memories and traditions pleasing to them and to The Lord.
