Haggadah

Haggawhaaaa??

The Haggadah is the book that is used at a church, synagogue, or home to help retell the Exodus story during the traditional seder dinner.

The point is to remember the Exodus story and the Haggadah helps it come to life, like dipping vegetables into the saltwater to represent the tears of the Israelites.  Many Haggadahs will all have similar actions and traditions to help enforce certain memories and aspects of the Exodus story.

Do I have to have a haggadah to celebrate passover?

No! We are commanded to remember the Exodus story.  How you choose to do that with your family is between you and the Big Guy.

If you want to have a seder, the haggadah is the book that is used to help organize the dinner and tell the story.

Considerations when choosing a haggadah

Audience

Who is going to be attending your seder?  They have haggadahs geared toward children.  Think about who you are trying to reach.

Messianic

Jesus is all over Passover!  If you purchase a traditional haggadah, it will miss critical elements of Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross.

Content

Most haggadahs contain the same traditions, though you might find that some contain extra-Biblical content. Make sure you like what's inside!

Where can I Get a Haggadah?

It helps keep the Seder dinner organized if everyone has their own haggadah.  You can purchase different haggadahs online, download some for free, or even make your own.  Think about what will make the biggest impact for your family.
