Let the Little Children Come to Me

Parting the red sea - tabletop edition

These are BibleToys figurines from Amazon, using all the sets.  There were a lot of Israelites leaving Egypt! Kids can roleplay the Exodus story using these toys.

What's extra great about this activity is that it doubles as a table setting for your seder dinner later in the week.  Scratch something off your to-do list while the kids learn the Word of God: win-win!

parting the red sea- people edition

Using the same tablecloths from the above picture, you can make Red Sea big enough for anyone to walk through.  Don't feel limited to using the tablecloths.  You can use sheets or blankets too.  Pull out your fort making skills, and build a contraption to hold the tablecloths.  Here, the back of a couch and some stools were used.  The story is really spruced up with some seashells and sea creatures on the "seafloor".
First, we spent a couple days with other activities to learn about Moses, the Exodus story, and how Moses parted the Red Sea when they were escaping Egypt.
The "Red Sea" before it was parted
We used Moses' staff to "part the Red Sea" - aka- push the stools aside and make a walkway.
We made Moses' staff when we learned about the different plagues.

Spoils of the egyptians

Another good tradition, especially for older kids, is Spoil of the Egyptians. The Israelites leave after they plunder the Egyptians.  They leave with silver and gold.  Remember how they make a golden calf later?

Sometime during the Feast of Unleavened Bread, you can go to Claire's, your favorite thrift store, or pawnshop and pick an affordable piece of jewelry.  Then you get to wear it on the holy day celebrated on the last day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

unleavened sensory bin

Because we're commanded to not have any leaven in our dwelling places, we go through our pantries, cabinets, shelves, freezers, and refrigerators to make sure none of the food contains a leavening agent.

Instead of packing on twenty pounds or hosting your own bake sale to try and not waste those cake mixes, a fun activity to try is a sensory bin.  Pour cake batters into buckets or bowls.  Kids can have fun scooping and sifting.  Plus it smells super good!  Most boxed cake mixes are taste safe because you're usually supposed to add the egg separately.  You can keep this safe but still make it as messy as you want by adding water!

kid friendly videos for passover

Although not all of the information in these videos are 100% Biblically accurate, here are some videos that the whole family should enjoy watching!

plagues

The plagues are one of the most significant aspects of the Exodus story.  Help them come to life by playing games, having toys, or even making all the plagues edible!
